Bombay to Boston

Its been some time since I have posted and now I guess I am free enough to express myself. My journey has been really exciting from getting the US VISA to reaching in US. I will try to put into words my experience so far.Our company had booked Gulf Air tickets and we had two stops in between 1st was Bahrain -> London (Heathrow)-> Boston.

Bombay to Bahrain: This was my first flight so I was excited and equally nervous, Luckily my friend Kapil and I were both together and so I was relaxed as had been to US some time back.
So we reached the SC airport in Mumbai at around 4 AM as our flight was @ 7:20 AM. Early in the morning we both were really hungry and we both were excited for this trip as we were going to try different varieties of chicken. So after the baggage check in and emigration we had enough time to waste so we started moving around and we saw KFC outlet at the airport.

It was aroung 5 in the morning and the KFC guy said they are going to close and they dont have anything .. suddenly disappointment stuck us and I suddenly felt it was not a good start for us. so we thought lets try some where else..we romed aroung the entire airport but some thing was pulling u back to KFC so we again tried our luck and this time some other guy said I just have two Zingers left. And Bingo we had stuck gold suuddenly our faces started glowing with happyness and content. We had those zingers and waited for the flight. The announcement happened and we went inside the plane. It was a GULF Air flight and the plane was okay and the Air Hostess were okay too. So the plane started moving and suddenly I got a feeling like we have one before we give our papers. The plane moved and I saw all the slums new our airport and suddenly felt what impressions the foreigners might get the moment they enter our country and then suddenly in few seconds the we were airborne wow I felt.. and looked at the site below it was awesome. The flight had a TV attached to each seat in which they were showing the flight route and the temperature out side. the temp out side gradually started decrising till it was around - 30 degrees C. I again saw out side and we were above the clouds and the sunrise had just happened. I cant put this in words but i will try .. we were just above the clouds and the sun was basking in glory with an orange shade it was a breathtaking site which made me instantaneously realize the greatness of the almighty.

The journey was around 3 ours 45 mins in duration. We were immediately served with food which was okay but I like the mango juice though. At around 8 AM local time we reached there and while landing I could see the island country of Bahrain that was the time when I realized how poor we project ourselves to the world and suddenly remembered the slums new our airport and the posh locality near the Bahrain airport it was an awesome sight the airport was near the sea or built on it who knows and we landed I was relieved

Bahrain to London : We took off from Bahrain from around 9:00 - 9:15 local time. We were in Gulf Air flight, it was some what a strange experience to start in morning from India and again reach a place after around 4 hours and early morning @ the destination. Whatever it was I was enjoying every bit of it. I got a seat 2nd next to the window. The flight was as usual the fun part began when we were about to reach London.

Our plane was taxing for some time in mid air and we reached London after 7 - 8 hours of flight. While we were taxing the sky was really clear and the ground view was awesome it was like a free air show of the london city from top. I saw the london bridge, london eye (The giant wheel), the Palace of Westminster it was an unforgettable experience. After spending much time in mid air we finally landed @ London, the landing was fairly smooth.

Heathrow Airport: After landing we reached terminal 4 and the last connecting flight was from terminal 3. So we took a huge electric bus which took us from terminal 4 to terminal 3. On the way we could see the city road the climate was really cold around 0 degrees. The regular security checks happened and we were inside the terminal 3 section of the airport. We had around 3 hours to spend there and we were mostly stuffed with food from flight so we thought lets have a look arouund the airport so we went around. there were fast food hotels shopping plazas and lot many cool things to check out there. One thing i realized was that things were FU!@# expensive there. After much scanning the whole place we settled down near plasma indicator, which should our flight to Boston TBD. We tried to access the internet from there but could not do so as there was no free WIFI network out there. So we spent time talking and relaxing. After some time the BOSTON flight was active and we were supposed to go the gate number 36 I guess. We reached at the gate and our last flight was operated by AA.

London to Boston: Our last flight was half full and operated by American Airlines. There was a drastic difference between Gulf Air and American Airlines and the main difference was the air hostesses. The American airlines air hostesses were really old and non attractive. The good part was they were more helpful and caring than Gulf Air ladies, anyways who cares and I also got a window seat. We were getting exhausted and we slept in the flight for of the part. In middle of the flight I woke up for some food and again slept.

In between I use to have a look at the out side scene it was night and the lights were full ON mostly yellow. After 7 and half excruciating hours we reached the Boston airport. I was kind of nervous dint know why and we met the port of entry officer. After some general questions my way to the US was finally clear. We went to take our luggage and saw my check in bags lock was broken any way I thought it must have been some security check anyway everything was as it was so I was relaxed.

The moment we left the airport a puff a really cold air touched my face and I realized that we were finally in US in there winter season. We took a taxi to Lowell from Boston it was ultra modern Taxi with GPS and all and the driver (Chillo) was from Egypt. He also took us for some Boston city ride and we saw the Boston City skyline, the Big Dig, senator John Karrys house and many schools and colleges. After an hour we reached our hotel and the taxi guy took a staggering 150 $ fees it was really high from Indian standards for some 80 - 90 kms ride. Any ways all in all it was some really cool experience to come from Bombay to Boston ....
