Interesting Facts....
Its a bugs life..
Being a developer I always had a curiosity of raising a bug. Yesterday I got an opportunity for the first time in my life to raise a bug. I felt some sort of a strange adralin rush when I was raising the bug.
Its was a battle of thoughts of how I was thinking from the user's perspective and also know what reaction the dev team might have on the issue raised by me.
Anyways the outcome of the issue is yet to be seen, hopefully the bug will be resolved as per my satisfaction.
Amen!!!
Maoists the Menace
I sincerely feel that the Maoists moral is getting boosted with the inactivity shown by the government. The current government has shown many times some soft corner for hard core criminals like Afzal guru, Nalini (Rajiv Gandhi Killer and many more including Maoists and Naxals). India has the second largest army in the world and these petty Maoists are daring the government to bow down how ridiculous.
If the scenario is not handled immediately I fear we might knock the door of a civil war similar to LTTE in Sri Lanka and that would be much more difficult to handle as India is much bigger than Sri Lanka and there are many places to hide. Just Imagine it took decades to kill Virappan how difficult would it be todeal with these Moists and Naxals if they grow with the pace at which they are growing.
God only can save India now ..I Feel...
England T20 WC 2010 Champs
Enemy of enemy is a friends .. even though England is not a favorite team of mine it gave me a pleasant surprise when I heard in the morning that they are the new T20 Cricket champs. I am happy maily because Pakistan and Australia both are not the Champs and it will keep Australia away from the championship third time in a row.
Congratulations to the English cricket team for there 1st ever ICC world cup victory.I always felt they should win this WC the moment India were knocked out after there pathetic and excuse less performance in the world cup. Shame on them and congratulations to the English cricket team. Enjoy the glorious victory..
Dhoni Ki Hogi Unhoni
Okay now lets discuss why all this is happening to Dhoni. Following are my reasons for his downfall.
- Removing all the seniors from the side.
- Teaching the young players how to disrespect the seniors.
- Ending careers of legends like Ganguly, Dravid and Laxman.
- Over influencing the selection process.
- Favoring some players in team like Yuvraj, Ravindra Jadeja etc despite them being in really poor form.
- Not inspiring his team about the importance of fitness as a result most players are today overweight.
- No improvements in fielding under Dhoni's captaincy. No strategy for improvement in fielding which has been our weakness since a long time now. Remember catches win matches and we have done exactly opposite of that.
- Not nurturing quality pace and spin bowlers. RP Singh
- Introducing concept of part time baller and batsman (Yousuf Pathan)
- Relying too much on Batsmen.
You might be feeling I am being really harsh on Dhoni but I was waiting for this moment for years.I always felt that anything that rises falls some day and the pace in which Dhoni's fame had risen it had to come down sooner or later. One of the reasons why Indian cricket team is still No 1 in tests is because we still have a few seniors left.
Anyways let hope the Indian team finds some rest after all this and bounces back. I just hope that we do not commit such mistakes in upcoming oneday international worldcup 2011.

Dismal Performance Again by the Indian cricket team.
We could not defend the championship and were kicked out in first round in T20 Word Cup 2 and this time we are kicked out due to horrible play.
We must have reached thanks to Afghanistan being n our group in the initial stages..Anyways..I need to get back to work..shame on the Indian team..
Today I writing before the match lets hope this brings the team some good luck. Hoping for the best and keeping fingers crossed All the best team India do well.
Dismal performance by the Indians again against Windies..
Today is a boring monday morning and I am not very happy to write what I am going to write today.India lost again to West Indies yesterday the entire team contributed to the loss and the main culprit has to be our dear cool captain Dhoni. "Vinash Kale viparit buddhi" and all his decision making has become junk.
It seems his luck has ran out and I was waiting for this moment this is the time when we will see if Dhoni is really good enough to bounce back. Till today everything was going in his favor every word he spoke every decision he took was going in his favor but now things have started changing..The really good team on paper looked like a heard of sheep's without a good Shepard.
All his decisions to make a new team without any experience players relying too much on luck, showing disrespect to seniors is all going to start chasing him to his down fall. We won the first T20 World cup but I doubt if Misbah ul haq had not made that mistake we might not have had the privilege either. Lets see how India performs in the coming match I still hope India has a chance and may be it is Dhoni's last chance.
Pathetic defeat by the Aussies
First he got rid of good experienced guys and now he cant deal with the freshers. I really hope India quality for the quarters again with the help of prayers from Indians rather than there(Players) performance...
Rohits innings was really nice to see but even he could not resist the feeling of behaving carelessly by giving strike to Nehra and Zaheer and ways the defeat was inevitable.

Why can't jets fly in volcanic ash clouds?
The short answer is that volcanic ash is made up of tiny pieces of glass that can shut down a jet engine.
A jet engine sucks in huge amounts of air that mixes with the fuel, ignites, and releases energy.
When these bits of volcanic glass get drawn into a gas turbine jet engine, they melt and fuse to parts of the engine. The melting point of volcanic ash is about 1,100 Celsius. But a jet engine operates at temperatures about 300 degrees hotter. The bits of glass tend to melt onto the fuel nozzles and turbine blades, rather than simply passing through the engine.
The result: the jet engine (or engines) may quit.
The volcanic ash tends to be concentrated at the high altitudes where commercial airliners fly. But near the ground, it's dispersed, and doesn't have the same effect on cars, trains, or ship engines.
Boeing, one of the world's largest manufacturers of commercial aircraft, says there have been about 90 incidents of aircraft being damaged by volcanic ash over the past three decades. One of the worst was the case of British Airways Flight 9 from London to Auckland, New Zealand. On June 24, 1982, the Boeing 747-200 flew through volcanic ash spewing from Mount Galunggung in Indonesia. All four jet engines quit within one minute. The plane dropped from 36,000 feet to 13,000 feet before the crew was able to restart each of the engines.
Pilots have found that jet engines can often be restarted once the aircraft drops to a lower altitude, as the glass on the engine parts hardens, shatters, and falls away.
The British Airways Flight 9 crew landed the aircraft safely in Jarkarta, Indonesia, but the volcanic ash had sandblasted the windshield of the aircraft, making it almost impossible for the pilots to see the runway. Watch a short Al Jazeera video (at the end of this blog) that includes a brief interview with the now-retired British Airways Capt. Eric Moody who describes piloting of that flight.
Volcanic ash doesn't tend to show up on aircraft weather radar (and it didn't during that British Airways Flight 9), because the radar is designed to detect moisture (thunder clouds) and the ash is too dry - or the particles are too small - to register. Also, the volcanic ash is often not visible at night.
To help aircraft avoid volcanic ash, Volcanic Ash Advisory Centers (VAAC) were set up in the 1990s. The VAACs cover nine regions around the globe. The two that airlines rely on in Europe are in London and Paris, and are part of the national weather services in their respective countries.
The VAAC in the Met Office in Britain is tracking the volcanic ash coming from Iceland, and its site includes updates and a map or chart of the ash in the area. The maps are updated every six hours. The VAAC web sites advise airline passengers to check the airline websites. British Airways, for example, has a section on flights canceled by the volcanic ash.
Disappointing end to MI team
- Extremely poor fielding.Dropping catches in final can be painful and we all saw that.
- Harbhajan getting promoted up the order, that was I think digging your own grave(If he would have scored runs the gamble would have paid off but it was really a risky move)
- Negative body language during batting by Mumbai Indians.
- 1st over was maiden and so was the faith of the match was set.
- Pollards was preserved till the end, which was the most pathetic decisions to make.He can hit the ball hard and he should that in 8 balls in which he was there in the crease.
- Extreme defensive approach while chasing.
Happy Birthday to the Master Blaster...
After two modest seasons in the IPL Mumbai team has finally shown what metal they are made up of and Sachin has lead the side from the front. What a tournament he has had so far around 70+ boundaries, man !! that is awesome..He has certainly silenced his ever growing list of critics once again..and proved a point that even in T20 cricket without hitting sixes one can still be the hugest run scorer.
I hope and pray that his injury heals quickly and he certainly play for MI team in the Finals.
Hey Sachin Happy Birthday and all the best..and complete at least 100 centuries in international cricket before you call it quits..We all are proud of you..
Reading web content in F-Shape Pattern
- Users first read in a horizontal movement, usually across the upper part of the content area. This initial element forms the F's top bar.
- Next, users move down the page a bit and then read across in a second horizontal movement that typically covers a shorter area than the previous movement. This additional element forms the F's lower bar.
- Finally, users scan the content's left side in a vertical movement. Sometimes this is a fairly slow and systematic scan that appears as a solid stripe on an eyetracking heatmap. Other times users move faster, creating a spottier heatmap. This last element forms the F's stem.
Heatmaps from user eyetracking studies of three websites. The areas where users looked the most are colored red; the yellow areas indicate fewer views, followed by the least-viewed blue areas. Gray areas didn't attract any fixations.
The above heatmaps show how users read three different types of Web pages:
- an article in the "about us" section of a corporate website (far left),
- a product page on an e-commerce site (center), and
- a search engine results page (SERP; far right).
On the e-commerce page (middle example), the second crossbar of the F is lower than usual because of the intervening product image. Users also allocated significant fixation time to a box in the upper right part of the page where the price and "add to cart" button are found.
On the SERP (right example), the second crossbar of the F is longer than the top crossbar, mainly because the second headline is longer than the first. In this case, both headlines proved equally interesting to users, though users typically read less of the second area they view on a page.
Implications of the F Pattern
The F pattern's implications for Web design are clear and show the importance of following the guidelines for writing for the Web instead of repurposing print content:- Users won't read your text thoroughly in a word-by-word manner. Exhaustive reading is rare, especially when prospective customers are conducting their initial research to compile a shortlist of vendors. Yes, some people will read more, but most won't.
- The first two paragraphs must state the most important information. There's some hope that users will actually read this material, though they'll probably read more of the first paragraph than the second.
- Start subheads, paragraphs, and bullet points with information-carrying words that users will notice when scanning down the left side of your content in the final stem of their F-behavior. They'll read the third word on a line much less often than the first two words.
Detailed Scanning Behaviors
It's fascinating to watch the slow-motion replay of users' eye movements as they read and scan across a page. Every page has reading issues beyond the dominant F pattern I'm discussing here. For example, users scan in a different, more directed way when they're looking for prices or other numbers, and an interesting hot-potato behavior determines how users look at a list of search engine ads. We also have many findings on how people look at website images. Many of the detailed findings are presented in our 2 full days of seminars on Writing for the Web at the annual Usability Week conference. (Including newer eyetracking research and other studies of how users approach online content.)
The biggest determinant for content usability is how users read online — and because people read differently, you have to write differently.
Bombay to Boston
Bombay to Bahrain: This was my first flight so I was excited and equally nervous, Luckily my friend Kapil and I were both together and so I was relaxed as had been to US some time back.
So we reached the SC airport in Mumbai at around 4 AM as our flight was @ 7:20 AM. Early in the morning we both were really hungry and we both were excited for this trip as we were going to try different varieties of chicken. So after the baggage check in and emigration we had enough time to waste so we started moving around and we saw KFC outlet at the airport.
It was aroung 5 in the morning and the KFC guy said they are going to close and they dont have anything .. suddenly disappointment stuck us and I suddenly felt it was not a good start for us. so we thought lets try some where else..we romed aroung the entire airport but some thing was pulling u back to KFC so we again tried our luck and this time some other guy said I just have two Zingers left. And Bingo we had stuck gold suuddenly our faces started glowing with happyness and content. We had those zingers and waited for the flight. The announcement happened and we went inside the plane. It was a GULF Air flight and the plane was okay and the Air Hostess were okay too. So the plane started moving and suddenly I got a feeling like we have one before we give our papers. The plane moved and I saw all the slums new our airport and suddenly felt what impressions the foreigners might get the moment they enter our country and then suddenly in few seconds the we were airborne wow I felt.. and looked at the site below it was awesome. The flight had a TV attached to each seat in which they were showing the flight route and the temperature out side. the temp out side gradually started decrising till it was around - 30 degrees C. I again saw out side and we were above the clouds and the sunrise had just happened. I cant put this in words but i will try .. we were just above the clouds and the sun was basking in glory with an orange shade it was a breathtaking site which made me instantaneously realize the greatness of the almighty.
The journey was around 3 ours 45 mins in duration. We were immediately served with food which was okay but I like the mango juice though. At around 8 AM local time we reached there and while landing I could see the island country of Bahrain that was the time when I realized how poor we project ourselves to the world and suddenly remembered the slums new our airport and the posh locality near the Bahrain airport it was an awesome sight the airport was near the sea or built on it who knows and we landed I was relieved
Bahrain to London : We took off from Bahrain from around 9:00 - 9:15 local time. We were in Gulf Air flight, it was some what a strange experience to start in morning from India and again reach a place after around 4 hours and early morning @ the destination. Whatever it was I was enjoying every bit of it. I got a seat 2nd next to the window. The flight was as usual the fun part began when we were about to reach London.
Our plane was taxing for some time in mid air and we reached London after 7 - 8 hours of flight. While we were taxing the sky was really clear and the ground view was awesome it was like a free air show of the london city from top. I saw the london bridge, london eye (The giant wheel), the Palace of Westminster it was an unforgettable experience. After spending much time in mid air we finally landed @ London, the landing was fairly smooth.
Heathrow Airport: After landing we reached terminal 4 and the last connecting flight was from terminal 3. So we took a huge electric bus which took us from terminal 4 to terminal 3. On the way we could see the city road the climate was really cold around 0 degrees. The regular security checks happened and we were inside the terminal 3 section of the airport. We had around 3 hours to spend there and we were mostly stuffed with food from flight so we thought lets have a look arouund the airport so we went around. there were fast food hotels shopping plazas and lot many cool things to check out there. One thing i realized was that things were FU!@# expensive there. After much scanning the whole place we settled down near plasma indicator, which should our flight to Boston TBD. We tried to access the internet from there but could not do so as there was no free WIFI network out there. So we spent time talking and relaxing. After some time the BOSTON flight was active and we were supposed to go the gate number 36 I guess. We reached at the gate and our last flight was operated by AA.
London to Boston: Our last flight was half full and operated by American Airlines. There was a drastic difference between Gulf Air and American Airlines and the main difference was the air hostesses. The American airlines air hostesses were really old and non attractive. The good part was they were more helpful and caring than Gulf Air ladies, anyways who cares and I also got a window seat. We were getting exhausted and we slept in the flight for of the part. In middle of the flight I woke up for some food and again slept.
In between I use to have a look at the out side scene it was night and the lights were full ON mostly yellow. After 7 and half excruciating hours we reached the Boston airport. I was kind of nervous dint know why and we met the port of entry officer. After some general questions my way to the US was finally clear. We went to take our luggage and saw my check in bags lock was broken any way I thought it must have been some security check anyway everything was as it was so I was relaxed.
The moment we left the airport a puff a really cold air touched my face and I realized that we were finally in US in there winter season. We took a taxi to Lowell from Boston it was ultra modern Taxi with GPS and all and the driver (Chillo) was from Egypt. He also took us for some Boston city ride and we saw the Boston City skyline, the Big Dig, senator John Karrys house and many schools and colleges. After an hour we reached our hotel and the taxi guy took a staggering 150 $ fees it was really high from Indian standards for some 80 - 90 kms ride. Any ways all in all it was some really cool experience to come from Bombay to Boston ....
